Judgment
Enthusiasm. It furthers one to install helpers and to set armies marching.
Hexagram Yu, or Enthusiasm, captures the profound dynamic when latent potential surges into active expression. It is not merely a fleeting state of joy, but a powerful mobilization of energy—symbolized by thunder emerging from the earth. The judgment, "beneficial to appoint feudal lords, to move the army," speaks to the critical necessity of structure when harnessing such momentum. Unbridled enthusiasm is volatile; it requires the architecture of organization to become effective.
To "appoint lords" represents the establishment of order and the delegation of authority, ensuring that the collective will is organized. To "move the army" implies decisive, synchronized action taken at the precise moment when conditions are ripe. This hexagram teaches that true power lies in the synchronization of preparation and execution. It is the art of transforming internal drive into external capability. Philosophically, Yu urges us to align our passions with disciplined strategy. It warns against the complacency of passive satisfaction, advocating instead for a proactive stance where energy is channeled toward constructive goals. It is the bridge between inspiration and the tangible realization of ambition.
Structure
Enthusiasm that expresses itself brings misfortune.
Firm as a rock. Not a whole day. Perseverance brings good fortune.
Enthusiasm that looks upward creates remorse. Hesitation brings remorse.
The source of enthusiasm. He achieves great things. Doubt not. You gather friends around you as a hair clasp gathers the hair.
Persistently ill, and still does not die.
Deluded enthusiasm. But if after completion one changes, there is no blame.
