Holding together brings good fortune. Inquire of the oracle once again whether you possess sublimity, constancy, and perseverance; then there is no blame. Those who are uncertain gradually join. Whoever comes too late meets with misfortune.

Hexagram [比] articulates the profound necessity of interdependence and the organic formation of authentic alliances. It represents the moment when scattered elements align around a shared center, creating a cohesive and functional whole. The "auspiciousness" described is not a stroke of luck, but the logical outcome of sincere inquiry and "primal constancy." This implies that true unity requires more than proximity; it demands an unwavering commitment to integrity and mutual benefit.

The imagery suggests that those in a state of unrest—"not yet peaceful"—will naturally gravitate toward such stability, for isolation is ultimately unsustainable. However, the warning regarding the "latecomer" serves as a sharp existential imperative: hesitation or obstinacy in aligning with a necessary truth leads to alienation and peril. To "hold together" is to acknowledge that our existence is fundamentally relational. By embracing connection with sincerity and timely action, we transcend the fragmentation of the ego and find a durable, meaningful place within the collective order.
